Your Pass is valid on trains operated by national railway companies, which means that you can usually board a train without the need for a ticket or paying additional fees. If the train you’re taking is a high-speed or night train, you will need to make a reservation.
Reservation fees are charged by the participating railway companies. As a Pass Holder, you only need to pay the reservation fee, not the full fare ticket for that train! Keep in mind, that the reservation fees can differ depending on the country, type of train, etc. Trains that require an additional reservation fee do luckily mean that you receive several perks, such as shorter travelling times, WiFi, comfy seats, electrical outlets to charge devices during travelling, and sometimes even meals or sleeping accommodations. Please use the link below to find an overview of the reservation fees:
The Reservation Self-Service we offer costs €2 per train, per person.
If you would like to avoid paying additional reservation fees, you can check whether your route can be completed using trains that do not require reservations.
On our website, you can select the "No seat reservation needed" filter before clicking "Search" in the timetable. In the Rail Planner app, this option can be found under "Filters".
While this may result in longer journey times or additional connections, it can be a great way to reduce travel costs and enjoy more flexibility during your trip. It is not always possible for every route, but it is definitely worth checking the available options!
