It depends on the train, the route and the class you travel in. Seat reservation fees are set by the train operators in our network, not by Interrail. Your Pass covers the journey itself, so you only pay for the reservation, not a full-price ticket.
To give you an idea, these are the average prices:
- High-speed trains within one country: around €10
- International high-speed trains: around €15
- Night trains: around €20, depending on whether you book a seat or a bed
Your train may cost more or less. To see the exact price, search for it in our timetable before you book. You can also see reservation fees per country and train.
Booking fees
When you book a seat reservation with Interrail, a booking fee of €2 per person, per train applies. If your reservation is sent as a paper ticket, there’s an extra €9 per order for shipping.
You can also book some reservations directly with the train operator, where fees may differ. See other ways to book in each country
Want to avoid reservation costs?
You can often reach your destination on trains that don’t need a reservation. Tick No reservation needed in our timetable before you search. Your journey might take longer or have more changes, and it isn’t possible on every route, but it’s worth checking.
