Not when you book with Interrail. Our booking system assigns seats automatically, based on what’s available on the train.
If you’d like to choose your seat, some train operators let you do this when you book with them directly. See other ways to book in each country
Travelling as a group?
Sometimes one person in your group might get a seat in a different carriage. Our customer support team can’t change seats once they’re assigned, but here’s what you can do:
- Ask at the ticket office at the station whether they can change your seats.
- Ask the conductor once you’re on board.
- Ask the people sitting near you. Most travellers are happy to swap so friends and family can sit together.
Travelling on a night train?
Some night trains assign beds based on gender, because they have separate compartments for women and men. The InterCity Notte in Italy is one example.
Need a wheelchair space?
You can book a wheelchair space directly with the train operator. On many trains, you can also book a seat next to it for a companion. Assistance with getting on and off the train is free, and you arrange it with the train operator too.
Our guide to travelling with reduced mobility explains how to book both in each country.
