Want to discover Europe with us? We'll help you choose the best Pass for your travel plans!
The Pass best suited for your trip depends largely on how long you wish to travel for, how many countries you want to visit, and how many days you plan to travel within that period.
Know before you go! Here are some things to consider that will help you choose the best Pass:
1. Where to?
Whether you are planning a multi-country tour across Europe or want to explore one country from top to bottom, we offer different Pass options that will allow you to plan your trip optimally.
- If you only wish to travel within a single country, then a One Country pass may be worth considering.
- For travelling across or within multiple countries, a Global Pass will be the best choice for you, as it's valid in over 33 countries.
- Thinking about the ultimate Greek Islands adventure? The Greek Islands Pass allows you to travel conveniently by ferry between Italy and Greece and among the Greek islands. You can visit Greek islands any time of year, and the impressions will be equally perfect each time, thanks to the excellent weather all year round!
- If you are interested in discovering more about Belgium, the Netherlands, and Luxembourg, the Benelux Pass would be the one for you! Enjoy your time in the heart of modern Europe. Fries, waffles, cheeses, and a selection of breweries are a must-try there!
- Lastly, if you are looking for a place to go during the winter, our Nordic Pass is a great choice! With this Pass, you can visit Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and Finland, where you will have guaranteed snowy landscapes for Christmas!
2. Pass validity period
There are two types of Passes in terms of validity period:
- The Flexi Pass is an especially attractive option for travellers planning longer stop-overs during the trip. Flexi Pass is valid for, for example, 5 days within 1 month, which means that in a 1-month period, you can pick any 5 days to travel. These can all be back-to-back, or you can spread them out throughout the month.
- A Continuous Pass means unlimited travel between 15 and 90 consecutive days from the start date of the Pass's validity. With this type of Pass you can travel every day, so it allows for maximum flexibility if you do prefer to spontaneously decide where to go.
Please make sure you read more about how this works on this page.
3. How many travel days do I need?
In order to choose the optimal number of travel days on your Pass, you first need to know what a travel day is.
A travel day is a 24-hour period in which you can travel on trains with your Interrail Pass. With Flexi Passes, it lasts from 00:00 (midnight) to 23:59 on the same calendar day. With Continuous Passes, every day in the validity period is a travel day. On each travel day of your Pass, you will have access to the train networks where your Interrail Pass is valid. Also see this page for more info.
Knowing this, you need to plan a travel day for each day you will be taking 1 or more trains. It's good to have a general idea of when you will be travelling by train before you buy a Pass, so you can avoid situations where you don't have enough travel days to fully complete your itinerary or waste funds on travel days that you will not be able to use.
