A supplement is an extra fee that some train operators charge on certain trains, on top of your Pass. You can still travel on these trains with your Pass, but you need to pay the supplement before or during your journey.
In our timetable and booking tool, these trains are marked Additional supplement required.
Which trains need a supplement?
Only a few trains and stations in our network need one:
- Railjet and Railjet Xpress trains between Austria or Germany and Italy
- TGV and ICE trains between France and Germany
- EIP trains in Poland
- Intercity Direct and Eurocity Direct trains between Rotterdam and Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands
- TER trains from Lille Europe in France
- The Centovalli scenic train between Locarno and Domodossola
- Trains to and from Brussels Airport in Belgium
- Trains to and from Arlanda Central station in Sweden (all trains except the Arlanda Express)
How do I get a supplement?
It depends on the train. For Railjet trains to and from Italy, TGV and ICE trains between France and Germany, and EIP trains in Poland, the supplement is included when you book a seat reservation with us. For the others, you buy it at the station, on the train operator’s website or on board. Buying on board can cost extra.
Prices and ways to buy are different for each train, so check the details for yours on our trains with supplements page before you travel.
