Some railway carriers can only issue reservation tickets in paper format. Whenever possible, we offer electronic reservation tickets through our Self-Service system. However, if you are offered a paper ticket, this means that no electronic version is available through our Self-Service system due to the carrier's booking regulations.
If you prefer an electronic ticket, you are welcome to explore our alternative booking methods, as some providers may be able to offer the same reservation in digital format. You can find more information here: How do I book seats?
You are most likely to receive a paper reservation if your journey falls into one of the following categories.
- Domestic trains in Norway
Some examples of international routes include:
- Slovenia – Croatia
- Austria – Slovenia
- Austria – Croatia
- Hungary – Slovenia
What happens if I lose my paper reservation?
Unfortunately, we cannot offer ticket protection for reservations issued in paper format.
If your paper reservation is lost or stolen, you will need to purchase a new reservation locally at a railway station, if seats are still available.
Please note that Interrail does not store electronic copies or scans of paper reservation tickets. A photo or scanned copy of a paper ticket is not considered a valid travel document and will not be accepted by onboard staff.
Unfortunately, lost or stolen paper reservations are not eligible for a refund.
