If you can’t book a seat reservation for your train, it’s usually for one of four reasons. Find yours below to see what to do next.
Seeing the error “One of the legs of your journey could not be booked”? Find out what to do
1. The train is sold out with us
Popular trains can sell out, especially in summer. Eurostar only has a limited number of seats for travellers with a Pass, so it can be sold out with us weeks in advance. Here’s what you can try:
- Check other dates or times.
- Look for other routes to your destination.
- Tick No reservation needed in our timetable to find trains you can board with just your Pass.
- Book with the train operator or another booking website. You can find all ways to book in each country on our website.
If you book somewhere else, we can’t help with changes or refunds for that booking, but we’re happy to give you advice if something goes wrong.
2. Booking hasn’t opened yet
For most trains, you can book a seat reservation 60 to 90 days before you travel. Eurostar is the main exception: you can book it with us up to six months in advance. If you try to book further ahead, you might not see a price or journey details yet.
To check when booking opens for your train:
- Search for your train in our booking tool.
- Click More information, next to the price. If there’s no price yet, the information is often shown in its place.
- You’ll see when booking opens at the top.
You can also check the train operator’s website.
3. The train can’t be booked with us
Not all train operators share their timetables with us, so some trains don’t show up or can’t be booked in our booking tool. For these trains, book with the train operator or at the station. You can find all ways to book in each country on our website.
You can’t book seat reservations with us in these countries:
- Bosnia and Herzegovina
- Bulgaria
- Estonia
- Finland
- Greece
- Latvia
- Lithuania
- Montenegro
- North Macedonia
- Portugal
- Serbia
- Türkiye
In these countries, you can only book some trains with us:
- Croatia: international trains only
- Great Britain: Eurostar only
- Romania: domestic long-distance and night trains can only be booked at the station
- Slovenia: international trains only
- Spain: some domestic trains and all trains to and from Portugal can’t be booked with us
4. The new timetable isn’t available yet
Train operators change their timetables twice a year, in mid-June and mid-December. If you’re travelling after one of these changes, reservations may only become available once the new timetable is confirmed and shared with us. This is usually one to two months before your train, and in rare cases only a few weeks before.
If the train operator is already selling tickets for the new timetable but you still can’t book with us, wait a few days and try again, or book another way.
